Reflection
Through my time in the Digital Technology and Cultures program at Seattle University, I’ve come to really appreciate the range of disciplines and ideas we studied. Being able to study technology from both a technical aspect through classes like Concepts in Computing and Everyday Coding as well as the more theory classes like Globalization and Digital Rhetoric, I felt really prepared us for the fast growing working world of technology. Learning just the technical skills can be great for building projects used by companies, but by also learning about the theory behind the technology sets us up to understand how this technology affects the people using it in the real world.
By having this dual understanding of technology, I feel better prepared to handle both technical and analytical aspects of the business world. Most people typically just come out of school with either a solid foundation in technical thinking or analytical thinking but with my unique background from the DICE program, I feel like I can facilitate both of these roles for a company that might have required two separate people. Initially going into the DICE program, I really wasn’t sure how I would be able to carve a role for myself in the tech industry with this degree. But after going through the program and learning about all the ways we as humans can approach technology and interact with it, I have found more confidence within myself to go out into the working world to practice what I have learned at Seattle University. |
